What is Arkaan?
Arkaan is a skill learning platform with a twist — it doesn't just teach you how to do something, it teaches you why it matters to do it right. Courses bundle professional skills with the ethics that underpin each industry, and pair learners with mentors who've walked the path.
Think of it as the antidote to surface-level learning. Not just "how to code" — but how to write code you'd be proud to put your name on.

The brief
Where did we start?
Arkaan came to us with a concept rich in meaning but complex to execute. Three very different users needed to be served — learners wanting structured growth, mentors sharing expertise, and administrators overseeing the whole ecosystem.
There was no existing product to build from. This was zero-to-one.
We had to define the information architecture, establish a design language from scratch, and create three interconnected products that felt like one coherent system — all in three months.

Our process
How we
approached it.

Discovery & Alignment
We mapped all three user types — learners, mentors, and admins — and ran alignment sessions with the Arkaan team to define the core jobs-to-be-done for each persona. Ethics couldn't be a checkbox; it had to emerge from context.

Information Architecture
Before any pixels, we built the full IA. Three products needed to share enough conceptual DNA that a user switching between them never felt lost — but serve distinct enough purposes to stay focused.

Foundations with Design System
We established Arkaan's visual identity and 30+ component library before designing any screens. This let us move fast across all three products without sacrificing consistency.

Iterative Design Cycles
Over 10+ design reviews and 50+ iterations, we refined each product — validating every decision before adding the next layer of complexity.

Handoff & Documentation
Every component was annotated for development. We made sure nothing was lost in translation between design and build.

We started
with the
design system.
A robust, reusable design system was the backbone of the entire project. Without it, designing three coherent products in three months would have been impossible. Every component was built to scale — and to carry Arkaan's tone of calm authority.
The system covered typography, color tokens, iconography, spacing rules, and a full component library — from buttons to complex learning cards and mentor profile modules.

The Core Challenge
Making ethics feel like a feature,
not a lecture.
The biggest risk with Arkaan was ethics becoming a separate module — a tab users skip past on the way to the "real" content. That would have killed the vision entirely.
We solved this by embedding ethical context into the flow of learning itself. Rather than isolating ethics into its own section, we designed contextual callouts woven throughout courses — short, sharp prompts that surface the "why behind the how" at exactly the moment it's most relevant.
Mentorship faced a similar challenge. Mentors can feel like a premium add-on — nice to have, rarely used. We designed the mentorship experience to feel like a natural extension of the learning journey, not a separate product. Mentor touchpoints appear where decisions get hard, where learners are likely to stall, and where a human voice matters most.
Ethics appears where the learning gets hard. Mentors appear where the learner needs a human.

The mobile app is Arkaan's primary learning surface. Designed around a core loop:

Every component, every flow, every interaction we built for Arkaan had to earn its place. Does this make the learning feel richer? Does this mentorship touchpoint feel natural here? Does this ethical prompt land without feeling preachy? These were the questions we asked at every review.
